After a final-year BSc student of Lucknow University levelled serious allegations of harassment and paper leak against a professor, he was taken into police custody on Saturday.The student is said to have provided proof to the university administration of professor’s inappropriate behaviour and his bid to leak question papers to her.Excerpts from viral audio clipIn an audio clip of the purported conversation between the two, the professor is heard telling her again and again to come meet him so that he could share with her the question papers of upcoming exams.He is also heard addressing her as ‘Darling’ in the conversation.“Koi financial support chahiye, kuch chahiye, tumhare liye sab kuch open hai,” the accused is heard telling the student.He goes on to say, “Kab aoge milne, maine dono paper out kar diye hain aapke…”In the audio, the girl is repeatedly trying to reject his help on different pretexts. She is heard saying that she had already covered the syllabus and that she won’t be able to come before exams because she has to take care of her ailing mother and everything else at home.However, the accused is heard saying, “Aapke exam jab honge, core wala aur elective wala, toh use pehle bata dena, maine dono paper out kar liye hain tumhare liye…Milne nai aaoge ek baar bhi?”The girl says she will try, but he asserts, “Nai try nahi, aana padega.”Interrogation under way, say the policeThe Lucknow Police stated, “The accused professor has been taken into police custody, and his interrogation is currently under way. Based on the written complaint received from the Controller of Examinations, Lucknow University, a case is being registered under relevant sections at the Hasanganj Police Station. Further legal proceedings are in progress.”The complaint alleges that Dr Paramjit Singh, professor at the university, engaged in obscene conversations with a female student of the university and offered her inducements for undue favours.The university administration has constituted an probe committee.The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mahanagar, said the accused professor had been taken into police custody and was being interrogated. Further legal proceedings were under way, he said.
