A MOTHER who was mauled by a massive 12ft shark in Australia has been named as her devastated family reveal she has had one arm amputated.

Leah Stewart, 35, was pulled from the sea in “a pool of her own blood” after onlookers heard a chilling scream on a beach in Sydney.

The teacher was savaged while swimming on Coogee Beach on Saturday.

Off-duty doctors tried desperately to stop the flow of blood as they tied tourniquets around her lacerated limbs.

Paramedics soon scrambled to the scene just before 11am – and an emergency helicopter airlifted her to St Vincent’s hospital.

Leah had been swimming just 100ft from the shore when the shark attacked her.

One witness, Nicola Logan, said she saw a “massive pool of blood”.

And ABC journalist Patrick Stack was also at the beach when the attack took place.

He described the scenes as “extremely concerning”.

“Lots of people [were] swimming in the water when we heard a really chilling scream going out across the beach,” Stack said.

Her bloodied body was hauled ashore by off-duty lifeguard Charlie Verco, 24 who ran into the water to save her.

The tragic attack has left Leah in critical condition with multiple bites across her arms and legs, according to a GoFundMe set up by her brother.

“Leah is a dedicated and loving mother, a passionate teacher, and a Coogee local who loves the ocean”, wrote Joshua Stewart.

“As a family we are shocked and devastated that this could happen to our beloved partner, daughter and mother who is so full of life and energy“.

Other locals described Leah as “amazing” and a passionate campaigner for better water quality and breast cancer awareness.

The mum-of-one swam more than 30 miles to raise money for breast cancer research last year.

Beaches along Sydney’s eastern suburbs had been shut down following the horror mauling – but reopened on Monday.

This is the latest in a series of horrifying shark attacks to grip the Australian coastline.

Just two weeks ago a diver, 35, was killed after being bitten by a shark while spearfishing.

The man was mauled off Michaelmas Island, a nature reserve around 240 miles from Perth.

And last month, a 39-year-old man died after being attacked while fishing on Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef.
