A viral video of a stand-up comedy show at Gurugram’s Cyber City has landed comedian Pranit More, a former Bigg Boss 19 contestant, in legal trouble, with Gurugram police registering an FIR at DLF Phase-2 police station against More, web developer Himanshu Jangra and the owner of The Laugh Store, the comedy venue where the incident took place. The controversy erupted after a video from More’s show went viral on social media, showing audience member Himanshu Jangra, a 22-year-old web developer from Gurugram, narrating a date story during a crowd-work segment.Jangra described buying a woman a chicken biryani worth Rs 370 and then expecting physical intimacy in return when she asked to be dropped home.He further framed taking her to a secluded park as a means of recovering what he had spent — remarks the police have described as highly objectionable and suspicious in nature. The FIR has been registered on the basis of a complaint from the National Commission for Women as well as police suo motu action, under Section 67 of the IT Act and Sections 294, 353(3), 75(2) and 75(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Gurugram police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar confirmed that notices have been issued to both Jangra and More to join the investigation. Legal notices have also been sent to social media platforms to take down the video. As criticism mounted online across Instagram and X, More’s employer Starvik Design terminated his employment. The company’s founder, Vivek Vishwakarma, said in a video statement that the remarks shown in the viral clips were objectionable and that the company did not endorse such views or wish for them to influence young people.More also issued a public apology via an Instagram story, acknowledging the criticism and admitting he should have intervened when the remarks were made.He stated that the audience member’s comments did not reflect his own views, that he had removed the video, and that he would handle such situations with greater responsibility and sensitivity in future.Separately, Jangra released a clarification video stating that while the girl he referenced was a real date, the story as narrated in the show had been exaggerated for entertainment. He acknowledged the use of certain words was wrong and apologised, adding that he had always maintained professional relationships with women colleagues.
