JUDE BELLINGHAM insists he “did not deserve” to be named Man of the Match against Ghana.

The England man and the rest of his team-mates failed to find a way through their resilient Group L opponents despite having 19 attempts and 78 per cent of the ball.

And Bellingham, 22, was subbed off for Morgan Rogers with 20 minutes to play as the Three Lions scrambled to try and find a winner.

Fans are responsible for selecting the Man of the Match at this summer‘s World Cup.

And it went to Bellingham, despite the Real Madrid star putting in a much less effective display than the one that helped propel England to a 4-2 win over Croatia last week.

Bellingham looked glum as he picked up his award and said: “I didn’t deserve it… it probably should have gone to one of their lads who defended so well.

“I had a couple of moments but it was hard to get into the game.

“I’m grateful for whoever voted, but it probably should have gone to one of their lads who defended so well.

“They played for a draw as it would have seen them through. Fair play to them.”

It was a feisty match-up from the off as England’s Djed Spence refused to shake hands with Thomas Party before kick-off.

A while later Spence was given an earful on the touchline by manager Thomas Tuchel but the German’s ranting and raving didn’t have the desired effect as the match finished 0-0.

With one group game against Panama to come, England are virtually certain to feature in the knockout rounds.

And the priority for Bellingham is that the mood remains positive around the camp.

He added: “Like always, second game fever with England – win the first one and do well, draw the second. But it’s OK.

“It’s important for us and you guys not to get too negative. No worries, no stress, no drama, stay positive.

“It’s not the end of the world. It stands us in good stead for the rest of the tournament.”
