A HUGE blaze has erupted at a UK power station – as locals are warned to avoid the area and close their windows.

Thick plumes of smoke could be seen for miles after the fire broke out in Barry, South Wales, this morning.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it is in attendance at the site Credit: media Wales

South Wales Fire and Rescue said: “We are currently attending a large fire at Aberthaw Power Station, Barry.

“Residents in the local area are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to large amounts of smoke. Thank you for your calls.”
