Xhaka’s fellow national icon Breel Embolo opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, but it was another Premier League target who stole the show in that opener.
Johan Manzambi put together an incredible run down the left wing where he dribbled past two Algeria defenders before delivering a crisp low cross to set Embolo up for the finish.
Manzambi, 20, has been linked with a move to Newcastle during the summer transfer window that could see him linking up with Xhaka in the Prem.
But Murat Yakin’s men will have to up their game in the Round of 16 where they will face the winner of the match between Colombia and Ghana.
