They walked out on a bill that included eight cokes, calamari and a £52 Dover sole on Monday night, reports the BBC.

The riverside restaurant posted images and CCTV footage of the incident to social media as they appealed for the customers to return and pay up.

Footage shows the pair arriving at the plush eatery before they’re seen at their table with an array of empty plates.

Another image allegedly shows the pair leaving the car park in a sporty Volvo S90 before the manager could chase them down.

Owner Tanny Martinez, said that it was “hugely disappointing for the entire team”.

He said: “The hospitality industry is already facing an incredibly challenging economic climate, with rising costs and pressures across the sector, without having to deal with situations like this.

“It’s incredibly frustrating when the hard work and dedication that goes into creating great experiences for our customers is not respected.”

He added that such incidents can have a “real effect on the team’s morale and wellbeing”.

The restaurant appealed for the couple to return on social media, saying: “A polite request to two customers who visited The Custom House today.

“We’d kindly ask you to return and settle your outstanding bill. We’d much rather resolve this directly and appreciate you getting in touch with us as soon as possible.”

They added that they had the couple’s vehicle registration and urged them to return or contact the team to arrange payment.

Users flocked to the comments in support with one saying: “Let’s hope it’s a genuine mistake and they return and pay their bill.

Another added: “So sorry to hear this folks, hope it gets resolved.”

“Hope they get in touch and feel remorse,” a third said.

“Your restaurant is lovely and the food has been amazing every time we’ve visited.”

The Jattvibe has contacted South Wales Police for comment.
