It delivered some of the streaming platform’s biggest viewing figures ever both in the UK and abroad, and launched Owen Cooper’s budding career.
And now a huge British actress, who has starred in an array of Hollywood movies, could be gearing to appear in the second series.
Daily Mail reports that Titanic star Kate Winslet is joining the cast, with the new series already in development.
Sources have revealed to the outlet that the Oscar–winning actress will head up a new storyline for the second series.

“It’s happening and in development.
“There’s excitement that Kate’s on board,” a source revealed to the paper.
It is also reported that the show will “still explore the darker side of youth”.
The Jattvibe has reached out to Kate’s representative for comment.
It was previously hinted that Adolescence could be coming back.
Actor and executive producer of the series Stephen Graham previously a follow–up at the Golden Globe awards in January.
After picking up his best actor gong, he hinted that he and writer Jack Thorne had plans for more.
He said: “It’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind. We’ll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned.”
Stephen also hinted that another series was on the way more than a year ago.
In an interview with Variety, Stephen appeared to hint it was happening as he joked it was all about the “figures” – essentially suggesting a no-brainer, based on the fact it has become Netflix’s biggest ever British production.
He told the publication: “Possibly [there’ll be a second], let’s see how the figures are.
“But yeah, there’s the possibility of developing another story.”
His comments in March 2025 came after we reported how bosses at the streamer were desperate to tie down on another series of the show.
