The makeshift right-back, 23, was having a good game against Mexican danger man Julian Quinones when he got his challenge horribly wrong minutes into the second half.

The referee was beckoned over to the VAR monitor and did not take long to make up his mind, sending England down to 10 men with 36 minutes of normal time remaining.
