A NAVY officer faces a court-martial for allegedly sexually assaulting a junior rank less than three months after taking command of a warship.
Lt Cdr Martyn Mayger became captain of HMS Tyne in February 2025.

But he was removed from post following a complaint and investigated by the Defence Serious Crime Command.
Lt Cdr Mayger never returned to command the vessel and has since been charged with two counts of sexual assault.

The preliminary stages of the trial will begin on July 17 at Catterick court martial centre, North Yorkshire.
HMS Tyne is one of three River-class offshore patrol vessels.

It regularly patrols the UK coast and the waters of northern Europe.
And has recently been monitoring Russia’s shadow fleet in the Channel.
The role includes protecting the UK’s critical infrastructure, such as undersea cables.
Last year, HMS Tyne shadowed Russia’s Kilo-class submarine Krasnodar in the Channel as part of a NATO mission.
The Ministry of Defence declined to comment further.
The Royal Navy has been rocked by a series of serious sexual complaints in recent years.
