A GRANDAD who was tossed like a rag doll by a bison in Yellowstone had his bones shattered in multiple pieces.
Carl Isom-McDaniel, 65, was flung 8ft into the air by the animal – weighing one tonne – during a walk with his grandson at the National Park.

Footage shows the beast becoming agitated and charging at the man at full-speed, chasing him through the trees before it eventually hooked him with one of its horns and hurled him ahead.
McDaniel broke his femur, the strongest bone in the body, in four places near his hip.

An X-ray revealed the extent of what his doctor described as a “pretty painful injury.”
“We saw the bison and he was down,” McDaniel said from his hospital bed.

“He wasn’t showing signs of aggression… until it picked a target. That target happened to be me.
“At the time, I had my grandson with me… They move master that you ever imagine.
“He just kept coming and he was aggressive. And as soon as he got off that tree, he launched me in the air.
“I didn’t get bruises from him launching me in the air, but it was the landing that became the problem.”

McDaniel explained that his family had just finished eating dinner and he was out on a walk with his grandson when the attack took place.
He warned his grandson to get to safety and tried to run from the bison himself, but it continued to chase after him.
“Even though I was on the ground, he could’ve stomped me, he could’ve gored me, he could’ve done anything,” he added.
McDaniel said he is grateful to have survived the attack and believed his injuries could have been worse.
Pointing at the X-ray, his doctor explained that his bone is actually broken in “multiple pieces.”
“You can see some fragments here and there are fractures and break lines right through that,” he added.
Professional photographer Mike MacLeod captured the extraordinary incident on film, claiming that the victim was “in good spirits” as soon as the ordeal was over.
“He was in a lot of pain, but was conscious and joking the whole time,” he told Cowboy State Daily.
“He was really worried and wanted to see the video to make sure it wasn’t his fault.
“It’s not his fault. You can tell from the very beginning. That was a really, really angry bison.”
Prior to Carl’s near-death experience, the bison had already terrorised several other groups of visitors.
In the aftermath, Yellowstone National Park told The Jattvibe: “A 65-year-old man was injured by a bison on the evening of July 10 at Bridge Bay Campground near Lake Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park.
“Park emergency medical personnel responded and transported him to a nearby hospital.”
