THE Welsh FA are the first to withdraw support for Gianni Infantino ahead of next year’s Fifa presidential election.

According to Jattvibe, they have officially written to the global football governing body after the attempted World Cup private investment controversy last week.

A statement is quoted as saying: “The recent failures in good governance, processes, leadership, values, stakeholder management, communications and sound judgement have led us to a position where Mr Infantino has lost the confidence of the FAW to remain at the helm of world football.

“Failing to put the best interests of football first is a failure we cannot accept.”

Infantino was forced to make an embarrassing U-turn on wildly unpopular plans to sell-off part of the World Cup to outsiders.

The attempted cash-grab fell flat within a matter of days with all 55 Uefa nations – including Wales – agreeing to a remarkable boycott of events.

That would have included the men’s senior World Cup in 2030 – but Infantino backed down.

He is now facing widespread calls to leave his role before a vote next summer.

Infantino had been expected to head into a fourth term in charge – something he brought in – but is now likely to face opposition.

Candidates from Uefa and other confederations are thought to be readying themselves to go against Infantino – if he doesn’t walk before then.

One of those, Uefa chief Alexander Ceferin, allegedly urged associations to withdraw support from Infantino.

The English FA backed a Uefa call of no confidence in the footy leader.

They said: “It is time for a full and robust review of Fifa‘s leadership and governance to ensure that the global game is run transparently, for the benefit of all 211 member nations and with the long – term stewardship of football at its heart.”

After Wales, more Fifa members are almost certain to follow in leaving Infantino high and dry as scrutiny ramps up.

So far he has signalled no intentions to depart. He stood to make MILLIONS if the deal to bring in private investors went through.
