A MAJOR retailer has released Christmas advent calendars four months before the big day with shoppers calling the decision “ridiculous”.
This marks one of multiple supermarkets releasing Christmas products well ahead of the festive season.

Eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted Cadbury Dairy Milk advent calendars on sale in Morrisons stores as early as July 31, despite being four months ahead of the Christmas period.
Sparking debate online, many have called the release of the products “ridiculous” and “killing the feel of Christmas”, with one customer commenting on Facebook, “let us enjoy summer first”.

Another said: “I’m not happy with Halloween and Christmas being rammed down our throats, it should be a maximum of 6 weeks before in my opinion.”
Some have also questioned the shelf-life to the chocolates, asking whether they would be out of date by the festive season.

One shopper also added they would “surely melt” during this current period of warm weather.
Morrisons have confirmed the sale of the advent calendars, as a spokesperson told The Jattvibe: “We start selling Christmas products a few months before Christmas, because we know some of our customers like to plan for Christmas in advance.”
However, not all shoppers have reacted to the news with negativity.
One shopper said it’s “never too early to plan” as it helps those with smaller budgets to organise and save for Christmas treats.
While others have said it’s “only 21 Fridays” until December 25.
Morrisons is also not the only major retailer to release Christmas products early, with chocolate tins and decor – including Christmas trees – already on sale in Costco from July.
Just last week, Harrods also opened their Christmas shop early, in order to allow visitors “plenty of time” to browse their festive stock.
