A 23-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly conspiring to murder her mother in Jaipur to gain control of family property and secure a government job, police said. Investigators claim she, along with relatives, hired contract killers and staged the killing to resemble a road accident. The victim, Neeraj Sharma (45), who worked as a lower division clerk (LDC) in a court, was killed on July 3 in Jaipur’s Pratap Nagar area after being hit by a speeding Scorpio SUV.Police have arrested seven people, including Neeraj’s daughter Ayushi Sharma, while one accused remains absconding.CCTV footage led police to murder conspiracyAccording to police, Neeraj was returning home after dropping her son at a coaching centre when a Scorpio travelling at high speed rammed into her.The impact threw her nearly 100 feet, killing her on the spot. The driver fled immediately after the incident.Initially believed to be a road accident, the case took a different turn after investigators examined CCTV footage from the area. The footage and subsequent investigation, police said, pointed to a pre-planned murder rather than an accidental collision.’Wanted mother’s job and property’: PoliceAccording to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ranjita Sharma, Neeraj’s husband had died about a year ago. After his death, Neeraj received a compassionate appointment and joined a court as a lower division clerk.”The investigation revealed that the daughter wanted the government job that became available after her father’s death. However, the mother accepted the appointment. There was also an ongoing property dispute between them,” DCP Ranjita Sharma said.Police said Ayushi allegedly wanted both the government job and control of the family’s property.Police allege Rs 7 lakh contract killingInvestigators allege that Ayushi conspired with her uncle Mohan Swaroop and cousin Balram alias Ravi to eliminate her mother.According to police, the trio hired Hemant Sharma, a resident of Bharatpur, for Rs 7 lakh to execute the murder.Police said the accused first tracked Neeraj’s daily routine using a rented Thar SUV, but failed to carry out the attack. They allegedly continued monitoring her movements for nearly a month before using a Scorpio SUV to execute the plan.Attack planned after tracking victim’s movementsInvestigators said the accused coordinated Neeraj’s movements on the day of the incident.According to police, Mohit Sharma shared her live location, Rohit Jatav waited nearby on a motorcycle, while Akash Sharma allegedly drove the Scorpio and Arvind Sharma accompanied him during the attack. After allegedly hitting Neeraj with the vehicle, the accused abandoned the Scorpio and escaped on a motorcycle, police said.Family had complained of threatsThe case was reported by Neeraj’s brother, Rakesh Kumar Sharma, who told police that she had repeatedly complained of harassment over property-related disputes involving her daughter and other relatives. He also alleged that Neeraj had received threats to her life on several occasions before the incident.During questioning, Ayushi allegedly told investigators that she wanted the government job that became available after her father’s death, but her mother had accepted the appointment instead, police said.Investigators allege that this, along with the property dispute, became the motive behind the murder.Seven arrested, one accused on the runPolice have arrested Ayushi Sharma, Mohan Swaroop, Mohit Sharma, Akash Sharma, Arvind Sharma, Hemant Sharma and Rohit Jatav in connection with the case.Balram alias Ravi, whom police describe as a key conspirator, is absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him.Police said the investigation is continuing, and the allegations against the accused will be tested during the judicial process.
