Two men were killed while a woman was critically injured after an SUV went out of control near Sawal in Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision of Kapurthala district, police said on Thursday.According to police, the vehicle, travelling from Sultanpur Lodhi towards Talwandi Chaudhrian, first rammed into a roadside tree, crashed through the iron grill of a private school and then slammed into another tree on Wednesday night.The impact was so severe that the SUV was completely mangled, with its tyres, windows and other parts scattered across the road.Rahul Gill, a resident of Bidhipur village in Sultanpur Lodhi, died on the spot. Police shifted his body to the mortuary of the Civil Hospital, Sultanpur Lodhi, at around 1 am.The other occupants, Lahugli (17), a resident of Talwandi Bootian village in Jalandhar district, and Anjana Rani (23), wife of Rahul Gill, were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Sultanpur Lodhi.Lahugli later succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Anjana Rani, who remains in critical condition, was referred to a higher medical centre after receiving first aid.On receiving information, the local police reached the accident site and initiated an investigation.Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding or loss of control may have led to the crash. However, police said the exact cause of the accident would be established only after the investigation is completed.
