SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) President Harjinder Singh Dhami today visited the Miri Piri Hospital and assured Haryana Sikhs that SGPC will continue to run the Miri Piri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research till court’s final order.He also held a meeting with the management, doctors, employees, trustees and some members of the HSGMC (Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee)Dhami said that the SGPC has released Rs 1.40 crore towards the pending April salaries of doctors and employees, and assured the staff that other pending salaries will also be paid.Dhami said the SGPC’s objective was to safeguard and run the institute as it was the property of the Sikh community.The SGPC had filed a Letters Patent Appeal (LPA) after the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed its petition challenging the constitution of a medical board by HSGMC for running the institute which the Trust challenged by citing it as an illegal intervention in the working of an Independent charitable trust.The SGPC president, who is also the chairman of the Miri Piri Trust, informed that it has so far provided around Rs 142 crore in assistance to the institution. This includes an annual budget provision of Rs 8 crore and Rs 25 crore provided through Sri Darbar Sahib as a trust fund for construction and infrastructure.“I have not come here to hand over possession of the management. The SGPC trust is still in execution and its trustees remain in place,” Dhami said.Dhami said the SGPC would clear the remaining salary dues as well as outstanding loans incurred for infrastructure development. He said several doctors and employees had left the institution amid the dispute and that the SGPC contacted them, asking them to return with an assurance that their pending salaries would be cleared.“Until the High Court passes an order, it is our responsibility to ensure that the institute functions smoothly and continues to serve the people,” Dhami said and added that the SGPC would abide by the court’s eventual order and urged the HSGMC leadership to await the judicial decision instead of turning the matter into an issue of prestige.Later, HSGMC President Jagdish Singh Jhinda and several other members of the Haryana committee also reached the institute.Jhinda said “Our committee had legally taken over the possession of the institute and the SGPC should leave its claim over the institute. The SGPC should play the role of a big brother and stop creating hurdles by approaching courts and affecting the smooth functioning. The HSGMC has its legal right over the institute and we are confident that we will run it smoothly. We have adequate funds and will release the salaries of the employees after getting the decision in our favour.”
