THREE “contaminated” lunch favourites sold at Asda and Morrisons have been recalled over listeria concerns.

Greencore, a food distributor to major supermarket chains, has warned consumers to not eat the products.

Asda Cheese & Tomato Pasta Salad with use by date August 9, Asda Nacho Cheese Pasta Salad with use by date August 10 and Morrisons Chicken and Bacon Pasta with use by date August 7 have been pulled from shelves.

The three pasta products are potentially contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, which can cause flu-like symptoms including a high temperature, being sick or diarrhoea.

In rare cases, the infection can become more severe and cause serious complications such as meningitis.

Those over 65, pregnant women and babies can be more vulnerable to listeria infections.

Shoppers have been urged not to eat the product, and instead will be able to return it to stores for a full refund.

The Food Standards Agency: “Greencore is recalling three pasta products because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

“They are Asda Cheese & Tomato Pasta Salad; Asda Nacho Cheese Pasta Salad; and Morrisons Chicken and Bacon Pasta.

“If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt.”

This comes after Lay‘s Sour Cream & Dill crisps were recalled earlier this month following the presence of undeclared allergens.

The product was pulled from shelves at Home Bargains as it posed a risk to those with milk and wheat allergies.
