Several members of the Sikh community held a ‘dharna’ outside the Panjokhra police station in Ambala on Jattvibeday, demanding the arrest of International Anti-Khalistani Terrorist Front (IAKTF) chief Gursimran Singh Mand.The community members expressed unhappiness over the detention of two Sikh youths in connection with the assault on Mand, his son and two policemen outside Gurudwara Shri Panjokhra Sahib in Ambala on Friday evening.According to the information, the Ambala police had registered a case on the complaint filed by Gursimran Mand under charges of attempt to murder, rioting, damaging property and other relevant sections against unidentified persons.After receiving information about the police action, leaders including HSGMC President Jagdish Singh Jhinda, BKU (Charuni) President Gurnam Singh, BKU (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) President Amarjeet Singh and several other senior members of the community reached the police station.However, after a meeting between the community leaders and police officials, and the submission of some evidence, both individuals were released, following which the dharna was lifted.Ranveer Singh, who was detained, said, “The police officials took me for questioning about the incident that happened near the Gurdwara. Since I did nothing wrong, I was not afraid. We cooperated with the police officials and were later released.”HSGMC member Gurtej Singh said, “We got information that around 4 am, two persons were detained from their residences. In response, Sikh Sangat gathered outside the police station. We have been demanding an impartial inquiry after listening to both sides and not taking one-sided action. The Gurdwara administration submitted a formal complaint seeking the registration of a case against Gursimran Singh Mand and his accomplices for disturbing the peace and sanctity of the Gurdwara.”Meanwhile, the police have also recorded the statement of Surinder Singh, 27, who was seriously injured after allegedly being hit by Mand’s vehicle.BKU (Charuni) President Gurnam Singh Charuni said, “While no action was taken against Mand, whose vehicle left several people seriously injured, two men were detained by the police under pressure. No action is being taken against Mand just because he speaks in favour of the RSS and BJP. Both individuals were innocent. During the meeting, the DSP informed us that Mand had sought security after reaching the Gurdwara. If he was really concerned about his safety, he should have sought security in advance. Moreover, he speaks against the community and still came there. His intentions were not good. An FIR should be registered against him under attempt-to-murder charges.”HSGMC President Jagdish Singh Jhinda said, “Mand had instigated the Sangat, which led to the incident. The statement of the injured person has been recorded to register an FIR against Mand. We have been assured that appropriate action will be taken. However, if no action is taken, we will hold a meeting on Tuesday and decide the future course of action. A five-member committee has been constituted to keep a watch on this matter.”DSP Ambala Cantonment Kuldeep Singh said, “Two people were called for questioning. Since there was insufficient evidence against them, they were released as per law. We have asked the Gurdwara committee to provide CCTV footage for examination.”Meanwhile, Ambala SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat said, “The community leaders had come to express their concerns, and they have been assured that no innocent person will face any action. The two individuals were taken to the police station for questioning only. Since they were not involved, they were released, and those who were involved will be arrested during the investigation. The statement of the injured person has also been recorded, and after examining the facts and evidence, appropriate action will be taken.”
