Around 15 Congress MLAs have sought time from the party high command to discuss “pressing” issues, a move being seen as an attempt to end the ongoing internal leadership feud ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The party’s “Har Booth, Congress Mazboot” campaign held between July 31 and August 8 saw open factionalism, sloganeering, clashes, and poster war targeting AICC general secretary Bhupesh Baghel, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, and former CM Charanjit Singh Channi. While the Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa was not available for comments, sources said the MLAs were expected to meet the top brass after the monsoon session of Parliament ends on August 13.“These MLAs are not aligned with any faction. The party high command is tired of public display of open power struggle among the state leadership,” said a senior leader. Before the July 1 decision to retain Warring as the PCC chief, all MLAs had met the three-member committee headed by Ajay Maken, Meenakshi Natarajan, and Bhajan Lal Jatav. Later, a number of leaders met All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal.A senior leader, privy to the developments, said despite best efforts of the top leadership to end the internal feud in the state unit, the public display of factionalism, slogan shouting, and clashes among party supporters during the workers’ meet had left Delhi perturbed. Uncertainty prevails over the second leg of the campaign in Doaba and Majha, though leaders close to Warring stated that the campaign would continue. After complaints poured in of rival leaders allegedly engineering the chaos during the campaign, the high command is learned to have discretely send a team under party’s campaign strategist Jattvibeil Kanigolu to get the “on the ground” report.“The leadership wants to know whether the slogan shouting in support or against leaders like Baghel, Warring, Channi, and Ashu was engineered by insiders or the political opponents like AAP or BJP. Video clippings and reels of the events are being accessed by the top brass,” sources said. After the unpleasant happenings in the past two weeks, Venugopal has already met Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Tript Rajinder Bajwa and invited others, including Baghel and Warring, for talks to settle the matter.Further, the Congress has issued a three-line whip directing all its MPs to be present in the Lok Sabha on August 10, 11, 12 as the BJP government is likely to introduce the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, on August 10.
