PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG has opened up on his shock Marseille departure this summer.
The former Chelsea and Arsenal forward landed for his second stint with the French outfit in 2025, after a spell in Saudi with Al Qadsiah.

He quickly cemented himself as a fan favourite and was the club’s second-highest scorer in all competitions.
But despite the 37-year-old’s blistering form, he was among the number of Marseille stars to depart the club in the summer window.

Now he has revealed that decision to join LaLiga outfit Deportivo La Coruna was out of his hands, and gave his explanation for the dire season that has left the club needing to sell.
He explained, via L’Equipe: “Given the situation, the club decided I had to leave. And I wasn’t going to go against the club’s wishes.

“I’m not someone who likes to cause trouble or be a burden. I think the club already has enough problems.”
Marseille went from a second-place finish in the 2024/25 campaign to a fifth-place finish last season, while suffering a shock league-phase exit in the Champions League.
Top scorer Mason Greenwood, starting defender Facundo Medina and keeper Geronimo Rulli have all joined the Gabon international in leaving the club this window.
Aubameyang continued: “It’s been a very, very trying season. The context was quite unusual with all the changes that took place at the club.

“I think everyone bears some responsibility for this unsuccessful season. Us, the players, but also the staff and management.
“Communication didn’t necessarily work between the two sides. That’s how it is, it happens.
“When you’re in Marseille, you have to manage to create a bubble and not let yourself be influenced by anything outside. That’s what we didn’t do last season and it cost us dearly.”
