The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged theft of cash and valuables at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has submitted its report to the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.The SIT has cleared former Trust general secretary Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, a former Trust member, according to a statement accessed by The Tribune.Both Rai and Mishra had resigned from their positions in the Trust, which manages the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, after allegations of donation theft surfaced. Both were questioned by the SIT regarding the process of donation management at the temple.Sources said the Trust had indicated that the report would be placed before a meeting of the panel next month.The Trust is also expected to review the findings and decide on further action.The three-member SIT, headed by Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, was constituted by the Uttar Pradesh Government on June 13 at the Trust’s request, before the Supreme Court intervened in the matter. Range Inspector General Kiran S and Special Secretary (Finance) Neel Ratan Kumar are the other members of the probe panel.The Uttar Pradesh Home Department later handed over the SIT’s final report in the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft case to the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for further action, the statement said.Sources claimed Rai denied any role in the alleged donation theft, stating that it was on his complaint that the suspects were arrested. He also told investigators that it was his responsibility to ensure that no irregularities occurred in donation collection and that he acted as soon as he became aware of the alleged wrongdoing.Based on the SIT’s preliminary report, Trust member Krishnamohan filed a written complaint at the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi police station, following which an FIR was registered on June 25.The FIR named eight people, Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava and Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu, along with other unidentified individuals, as accused. All of them have been arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the BNS and Section 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The report also formed the basis for subsequent FIRs and arrest-related action in the case.
