He has since released a statement on social media addressing the situation.
Taking to Instagram, the attacker said: “First things first – I’m doing fine! I am particularly grateful for your messages and your support!
“I understand that many of you are worried. I want to put your minds at ease today and explain a few things:
“I have been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but well-treatable absences (absence seizures) caused by a neurological dysfunction.
“These can lead to the kind of moments that happened recently, such as against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim.
“I know these might look scary at first glance – but right now, they’re just part of my daily life.
“I am receiving the best possible medical care and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my personal circle are always by my side, supporting me on this journey.”
He continued: “Most importantly, there is no additional health risk beyond this.
“In close consultation and regular communication with experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and – with clearance from neurological specialists – to keep focusing on what helps my recovery most: simply living my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion for playing football.
“I have taken full responsibility for this decision. Overall, I feel very good about it and am on the right track.
“What helps me most on this path is to keep chasing victories and titles alongside my team and with your fantastic support.
“I hope this helps you understand my situation better.
“At the same time, I kindly ask for your understanding that I wish to keep this matter private, within the circle of my closest confidants, the club, and the medical experts.”
