BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh on Monday said the party would contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab on its own and “form the next government” in the state. The announcement came amid growing buzz over the possibility of an alliance between the erstwhile partners BJP and SAD.“Punjab is ready for change and the BJP is fully prepared for the opportunity,” said Santosh, addressing the first zonal meeting held in Patiala on the first day of his two-day tour to the state. The SAD had walked out of the BJP-led NDA in 2020 over the contentious farm laws.Earlier, Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon had also rejected the possibility of an alliance, saying the party was prepared to contest all seats on its own.Santosh is reviewing organisational activities and preparations for the Assembly elections through zonal meetings with BJP leaders and organisational office-bearers across different regions of Punjab.On Monday, he chaired meetings in Patiala and Bathinda. “The biggest challenge will be to make traditional party leaders and their supporters work alongside those who had joined the BJP from other parties. Exploring the possibility of an alliance is another task,” said a senior leader who had recently joined the BJP after quitting the Congress.The Patiala meeting brought together representatives from Mohali, Patiala North, Patiala Urban, Patiala South, Fatehgarh Sahib and Sangrur, while the Bathinda meeting covered Barnala, Mansa, Bathinda Rural, Bathinda Urban, Muktsar, Fazilka and Faridkot.In Bathinda, Santosh stressed the need to honour all former party office-bearers. “The incumbent office-bearers must give due respect to their predecessors and others,” said a BJP leader who attended the meeting.At a separate event in Fazilka, BJP national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh also said the party would contest all 117 seats, and that “Congress and AAP would win only about 10 seats each”. He was attending an event where Anita Jairath, the newly elected president of the Fazilka Municipal Council, assumed charge.“Punjab is fed up with the AAP and Congress governments. AAP failed to fulfil its promises related to bringing about a revolution in the fields of education and health. Not a single new hospital has been opened. The law and order situation has deteriorated, with mafia ruling the state. Punjab has been pushed to the margins,” said Chugh.On August 25, organisational meetings will be held in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. The Ludhiana meeting will cover Ludhiana Rural, Ludhiana Urban, Moga, Jagraon, Khanna, Malerkotla and Ropar. The Jalandhar meeting will include Jalandhar North, Jalandhar Urban, Jalandhar South, Hoshiarpur Urban, Hoshiarpur Rural, Nawanshahr and Kapurthala. The final zonal meeting will be held in Amritsar, covering Amritsar Urban, Amritsar Rural I and II, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Batala, Pathankot and Ferozepur.
