COUNCIL house tenants could be given the boot if they live in squalor and fail to maintain their gardens, Reform UK has warned.

Nigel Farage’s party has promised a major shake-up of social housing including building more than 50,000 council homes a year.

But Reform chairman Lee Anderson said hard-up Brits expect council house tenants living in accommodation subsidised by the taxpayer to be left in a “reasonable” state.

He said: “People who live in subsidised housing – paid for, subsidised by the hard-working British taxpayer – what is wrong with expecting them to keep their house to a reasonable standard?”

Mr Anderson warned that councils failing to screen tenants properly was “creating mayhem and disturbances on these brand new housing estates.

He added: “The hard-working British taxpayer, the alarm clock people who get up at five or six o’clock in the morning, go to work and they see the house next door with four foot of weeds, dustbin not been emptied for three weeks, and a waft of weed coming out the window – it’s not acceptable.”

His comments come as Reform unveiled its plans to overhaul social housing in Britain.

Young married couples who work and have children would be moved to the front of the queue as well as veterans.

Mr Farage’s party wanted to revive the Right to Buy policy.

This is channelling an old policy put forward by Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s.

Foreign nationals living in social housing will be evicted within a short-time frame as a Reform government takes power.
