A MAN is fighting for life and a woman injured after a house explosion.

A man was rushed to hospital with critical injuries after the explosion at the terraced house in Harpurhey, Manchester at 10.20am today.

Homes next door were evacuated and the road cordoned off.

Gas supply company Cadent said it was “too early to confirm a cause” but there was “nothing at this stage to suggest any issues with the local gas network”.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “At around 10.15am today (Tuesday 8 September), four fire engines from Blackley, Phillips Park and Manchester Central, two emergency response units from Leigh and a drone were called to an explosion at a house on Ash Street, Manchester.

“Crews arrived quickly and are working with Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and Cadent gas.

“Two people were treated at the scene, with one man taken to hospital.

“Firefighters remain on site making the area safe. Residents are asked to avoid the area while a cordon is in place and Rochdale Road is partly closed.”

In a statement, cops said: “We were called to reports of a suspected explosion on Ash Street, in north Manchester, at 10.20am on Tuesday 8 September 2026.

“Emergency services attended the scene. A man is in a critical condition and has been taken to hospital. Road closures will be in place on Ash Street and Rochdale Road, please avoid the area where possible.”
