The Mags stressed keeping Hall from United’s clutches was just as important as appointing Eddie Howe’s successor after confirming his extension.

The England international is “absolutely delighted” to end speculation over his future by penning a five-year contract, making him one of the top earners at St. James’.
Sporting director Ross Wilson, who has also tied-down Lewis Miley and Sven Botman to extensions, said: “We were always clear that his future was with us, and in the context of our business this summer, retaining him and extending his contract was right up there in terms of importance.”

But United still view Hall as Luke Shaw’s successor and are set to return with another attempt to sign him next summer.
And Newcastle’s record goalscorer Shearer says the star’s contract will mean nothing if his heart is set on Old Trafford.
The former striker, who famously rejected moves to United TWICE in the 90s, told Betfair: “It’s great news for Newcastle that Lewis Hall has signed a new long-term deal.
“There is always going to be interest in top players and he’s a top left back. There’s not many good ones around and Newcastle have got a really good one, so I understand why other clubs were sniffing around him in the transfer window.

“The only issue is what does it really matter what contract he has if he wants to leave. However, at the minute he seems very happy and happy enough to sign that new deal. So, I’m pleased for Newcastle and him.”
Newcastle, who transformed their squad with eight new arrivals all aged 24 or younger this summer, have made an unbeaten start under new head coach Matthias Jaissle.
Hall, after putting a stop to United talk for at least another 12 months, believes the German can bring the good times back to the club.
The ace, whose dad hails from the North East and is a Newcastle fan, said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a really proud moment. It’s an absolute pleasure to play for this club and to represent the supporters. I know how much it means to them.
“I obviously have a family connection with the club, which is incredibly important to us all. One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle United.

“It’s a really good place to be. It’s really pleasing with how we’ve started the season, especially with the new gaffer and coaching staff coming in, and I think we can go on to achieve really big things.”
Hall joined Newcastle permanently for £35m in 2024 from Chelsea following an initial loan and soon broke through into the senior England set-up.
He missed out on the World Cup following a dip in form after being switched to right-back under Howe.
But he has been back to his best under Jaissle, who added: “He is a very important player for us and for what we are building here, so this is exciting news.
“What excites me most is that I believe the best is still to come from Lewis. He has a lot of room to develop, and I am looking forward to working with him as he grows with us.”
