A WESTMINSTER inquiry into Britain’s Eurovision flops has been dubbed a waste of MPs’ time.

The Commons Culture Committee is probing the UK’s “dismal” performance.

But it has been blasted over its proposals to ask BBC figures and music experts to give evidence in Parliament.

Campaigners say MPs should not be focusing on trivial issues when Britain faces challenges on the economy and migration.

William Yarwood, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Britain has soaring debt and a record-high tax burden.

“Yet MPs have decided that the urgent national question is why we’re rubbish at Eurovision.

“They should get back to scrutinising things taxpayers pay them to worry about.”

British entrant Sam Battle, aka Look Mum No Computer, finished last with one point in May.

James Newman got nul points in 2021.

Sam Ryder is the only successful British act this decade, finishing second in 2022.

Committee chairman Dame Caroline Dinenage said: “We want to get to the bottom of who chooses our entrant and on what basis.

“And whether our dismal record in recent years is the result of bad song choice, weak performance or something else.”
