Delhi Police on Wednesday debunked claims that a truck loaded with stones was deliberately parked near Jantar Mantar on the day of the “Sansad Chalo” march called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), saying the vehicle had been seized after a road accident, days before the protest.Calling the claims “false and misleading”, police, in a clarification, said the vehicle in question had been impounded well before the protests.According to officials, the truck was seized on July 16 following a collision with a van in which six people were injured.Police said the seized vehicle was initially parked near Parliament Street Police Station for safe custody due to space constraints.However, in view of the extensive law and order arrangements for the “Sansad Chalo” movement, the truck was emptied and shifted to a safer location during the early hours of July 20 after due instructions were issued to its owner.Rejecting claims that the vehicle was part of any conspiracy against protesters, Delhi Police termed such allegations “completely baseless” and urged the public not to spread unverified information.On July 20, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke had pointed to a truck loaded with stones parked near the protest site and sought an explanation from Delhi Police on how it crossed the police cordon and reached the area.“It could have been used to frame the protesters or incite violence,” Dipke had said. However, the police did not respond to his queries at that time.
