The District and Sessions Court in Amritsar today dismissed bail application of former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar’s father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar in the Punjab warehousing corporation’s official Gagandeep Singh Bhullar suicide case.Randhawa had committed suicide on March 21 by consuming celphos and blamed the minister for taking the extreme step in a video. The incident triggered a political slugfest with the Opposition demanding an FIR against Laljit and others in the case. The police later booked Laljit, his father Sukhdev and personal assistant Dilbagh Singh. While Laljit was arrested on March 23 from Mandi Gobindgarh, the remaining accused were on the run.Sukhdev moved the local court seeking anticipatory bail while claiming that he was being politically targeted and subjected to a media trial. He also pointed out that his name did not figure in the video allegedly recorded by the deceased before his death. The application also argues that he did not hold any dominant position that could have compelled Randhawa to take the extreme step. The deceased’s wife, Upinder Kaur, has expressed dissatisfaction with the police investigation, alleging inaction in arresting the absconding accused. She had also alleged that the family was being pressurised for reaching a compromise while repeating her demand for a CBI probe.
