Stop the boasts
ANDY Burnham’s reaction to public fury at illegal migrants being housed in their communities spoke volumes.

His suggestion that every area must accommodate asylum seekers who leave France entirely misses the point.

Those tens of thousands of incomers — many of them young men, some of whom will pose a public danger — should NOT be here in the first place.
Burnham’s astonishingly tin-eared plea came just hours after Angela Rayner wrongly suggested most migrants were vulnerable women and children. They just don’t get it.

An illegal migrant is currently landing on our shores EVERY 14 MINUTES.
Instead of lecturing the public on their responsibilities, how about Burnham gets round to holding an emergency Cobra meeting on the mega-dinghies?
All we’ve had so far is ministers boasting about cutting the number of asylum hotels when they are dumping migrants in Houses of Multiple Occupation.
Or the Government claiming to have cut crossings by 40 per cent when it’s widely acknowledged that the weather remains the only reliable way of stopping the boats.
Where is the Rwanda-style deterrent that was showing signs it could work before Labour foolishly axed it? Where is the action on ending free housing and benefits for asylum seekers?

KEIR Starmer once bemoaned the Civil Service for sitting in the tepid bath of managed decline.
It seems under a new Prime Minister that the temperature has dropped another few degrees.
Whitehall’s response to prison overcrowding has been inept.
Their “can’t do” attitude has forced a disastrous early release scheme that the Chief Inspector of Prisons says could inflict a wave of rape and murder.
Is it any wonder we see so much state uselessness when the majority of civil servants can swap working at their desks for sitting at home in the sunshine?
Keep it down
CHANCELLOR John Healey says his number one mission is to ease the cost of living for families.
There is one surefire way to do just that: Scrap the 5p fuel duty increase due to kick in on January 1.
So far, Andy Burnham has been happy to spend billions to knock £45 off energy bills or a quid off bus fares.
Keeping pump prices down would put a bit more money back in the family coffers and help to rein in food prices.
That’s how to make a REAL difference.
