ANTHONY JOSHUA and Tyson Fury’s Battle of Britain boxing showdown is edging closer to a bizarre US setting, with another shock broadcasting decision set to be made as well.

The long-awaited heavyweight clash took a big step towards being confirmed after Joshua and Fury beat Kristian Prenga and Mariusz Wach, respectively.

However, in a bitterly disappointing decision for UK fighting fans the fight is expected to take place in the United States.

According to Sports Illustrated reporter Chris Mannix, fight night broadcaster Netflix have steered the direction of the blockbuster bout across the pond.

He adds it is “almost certain” Joshua-Fury will happen Stateside, with New York’s Madison Square Garden the frontrunner.

Multiple sources have claimed the streamer is targeting a Friday night date, which is another change to UK broadcasting norms which usually see such major events happen on Saturday.

A concrete date is yet to be confirmed while discussions are ongoing.

But the report adds November 20 is one targeted date, with the thinking behind Friday night being so that it does not clash with College Football.

The sole exception to Netflix’s Friday fight night slate so far has been Terence Crawford‘s unanimous decision victory over Canelo Alvarez in September last year.

For AJ, 36, and Fury, 37, this fight has been a decade in the making, with Joshua’s ex-training partner Richard Riakporhe exclusively telling JattvibeSport how Joshua has been training for the bout for five years.

He told JattvibeSport’s Corner Talk podcast: “I was in camp with Joshua when we used to have the same coach, Angel Fernandez and I used to go to Finchley sometimes and train with him and they were training for Fury.

“Then the fight fell through. Then they got another date and they started training for Fury again.

“They said something about the contracts they can’t do the fight. Then it collapsed again.

“So this is two times they’re training for the fight and it fell through. So he thought this guy is just not serious.

“And everybody was slagging Joshua online saying he doesn’t want to fight and stuff like that but I was with him.

“I can testify he was actually training. We’re all training, he had big sparring partners in the ring and he was preparing for him. But things happen.”

Boxing icon Lennox Lewis also expressed his fears the long-overdue grudge match has grown stale.

Despite this, it has been estimated the purse for the fight could be upwards of £100million.
