The Patiala administration, along with Army officials, conducted a mock drill on Thursday to evacuate farmer Gurjeet Singh Khalsa (43), who is set to end his 560-day protest atop a 400-feet BSNL tower on Friday.An eight-member team comprising Army personnel, police, fire department and administrative officials inspected the site and used a crane to reach a height of about 275 feet, where Khalsa is currently stationed.The Punjab Government had sought Army’s assistance for the evacuation. Officials said the operation was likely to be carried out early morning, depending on weather conditions.“The evacuation is likely around 7-8 am, depending on wind velocity,” said a senior police officer. “Our teams used the crane and met Gurjeet Singh, who has agreed to climb down and be part of the akhand path bhog,” he added.Khalsa had agreed to end his protest after the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill, 2026, received approval from Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, paving the way for its enactment.Members of the Samana Tower Morcha are holding an akhand path near the protest site at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk. The dharna is scheduled to end with the bhog on Friday.A resident of Kheri Nagaiyan village in Patiala, Khalsa said he would descend after the bhog in the presence of supporters.
