The presence of former Akal Takht Jathedar among Sant Samaj leaders during the special Vidhan Sabha session on Monday remained the centre of attention. It brought the focus back on tension between him and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).Giani Raghbir Singh was unceremoniously removed as head priest of the Golden Temple earlier and his participation in the proceedings drew sharp political attention. He was particularly critical of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s recent claim that he was punished by five Sikh high priests under a “conspiracy”. He countered that Sukhbir had admitted his mistakes before the Akal Takht, but later backtracked at a rally in Muktsar.Giani Raghbir welcomed the passage of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill, 2026. “The legislation reflects the collective will of the Sikh community to ensure strict punishment for acts of sacrilege. But enforcement must be serious, transparent and free from misuse,” he said, urging for time-bound trials.Twenty-six Sant Samaj leaders, including AAP Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewa, Sant Baba Sewa Singh Rampur Khera Wale, Baba Amir Singh Jawaddi Taksal, Baba Satnam Singh (Kar Sewa Anandgarh), Baba Anhad Raj Singh Ludhiana and Baba Mahinder Singh also joined the proceedings.
