The top Congress leadership may opt for a broader organisational reshuffle to placate warring factions in the state unit as the deliberations have now shifted to Delhi, according to party insiders.All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge for Punjab Bhupesh Baghel is expected to submit his report to the party high command soon as his six-day trip to the state aimed at bridging the rift after a recent rejig concluded today.Sources said that, opposing the continuation of Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as the state unit chief, former CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Jalandhar Cantonment Pargat Singh and others have stressed the need for a more acceptable face to lead the party in Punjab. The leaders are now waiting for Rahul Gandhi’s return from abroad for the redress of their concerns, a party insider said.Meanwhile, Warring, who enjoys the confidence of the central leadership, has denied any wrongdoing and accused some of his rivals of holding parleys with Opposition parties.Party insiders said that as the Assembly elections are still some time away, the Congress leadership was keen to avoid a full-blown rebellion that could further erode the party’s base in the state. The Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, said, “When Bhupesh Baghel arrived here, I had promised him that as a senior Congressman, I would try to act as a bridge.”“We brought all people together, including those who had different viewpoints, and he held detailed meetings with everyone. The objective is to win, and only a popular face can lead the party to victory. I believe that within a week, decisions will be taken in line with the expectations of Punjab and Congress workers,” he added.Hours after Randhawa, without naming Warring, said the party did not need compromised leaders, the state Congress chief said, “Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is absolutely right. If anyone is compromised, he cannot stay with us. We do not need any sleeper cell or compromised leader in our party.”“Many leaders are accused of meeting BJP leaders, and at times, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party. Punjab does not need a compromised leader. Whatever issues exist between me and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, we will sort them out,” he added.
