ITV has confirmed that Big Brother is set to return this autumn with an extended series.

It comes after The Jattvibe exclusively revealed previously that show bosses were planning the shake-up amid a ‘rest’ for the celebrity version of the series.

The social experiment show, which was rebooted in 2023 by the broadcaster, typically runs for six weeks – following the lives of a group of varied housemates from across the country.

However, the show is set to air across a lengthy eight weeks later this year.

ITV said: “A new batch of Housemates from every corner of the UK take up residence in the nations most famous home with a stylish new look, setting the stage for 8 weeks of drama, laughter & unmissable moments.’ #BBUK.”

This confirmation comes after a source told us it was in the works back in January, after it was revealed there wouldn’t be another celebrity version until 2027.

At the time, they said: “Despite the hold on the celeb version, ITV has always insisted that the programme is what they call a ‘priority reality format.

“So it’s reassuring to see plans like this being on the table.

“Extending by a week is something fans have been calling for as past runs have shown the action really only heats up in the latter days.

“The civilian one is far cheaper to produce than celebrity so the return on investment is worth the while.

“ITV really is committed to the format and has lots of ideas to keep the civilian version as exciting as possible, with the extension being one of the options being considered.”

Big Brother, hosted by AJ Ododu and Will Best, enjoyed more than 150million streams on ITVX, with the last civilian series averaging one million per episode across all devices.

This switch-up closely matches the show’s original format, which aired on Channel 4 and then on Channel 5 and was famously longer.

The very first season of the show ran for a lengthy 65 days, which is over nine weeks.

Big Brother ended it’s 18-year run back in 2018 before it was rebooted by ITV five years later, and has been a staple on the channel since.

The civilian season of the show last aired in November, with contestant Richard bagging the £100K prize during a nail-biting finale.
