A day after the results of the municipal elections were declared, BJP Punjab president Kewal Singh Dhillon launched his first offensive against the AAP government, accusing it of orchestrating large-scale fraud during the polls. Despite that, he said, the BJP delivered an impressive performance across the state. While meeting BJP leaders in the Doaba region, Dhillon reiterated that the BJP would provide MSP for 21 crops in the state when the party comes to power in 2027.On Saturday morning, Dhillon called on key state leaders during his visit to Doaba. He visited BJP leader and national executive member Manoranjan Kalia’s residence at Jalandhar and senior BJP leader Som Parkash’s residence at Phagwara. At each of these venues, he was greeted by the party’s local cadre who welcomed him with bouquets and garlands.Accusing the state’s AAP government of carrying out large-scale irregularities during the MC polls, Dhillon said, “To date, a fraud of such a large scale has never been witnessed during municipal elections in the state. At Barnala, one of our candidates was grievously injured and another’s papers were rejected very late at night. These elections have been marked by loot. Yet, a very impressive result has been put up by the BJP. Our committees have been formed at many places. Those who did ‘dhandli’ (fraud) will get a befitting reply from the people of Punjab.”Notably, the BJP bagged 172 seats across the state in the MC polls.Speaking on the issue of MSP, Dhillon said, “MSP for two crops is currently being provided in Punjab — wheat and paddy. At Haryana, MSP for 25 crops is being provided. When the BJP forms government in Punjab in 2027, we will ensure MSP for 21 crops. The BJP is also constantly thinking of crop diversification in the state. As per diversification, whichever crops are sown, be it maize or pulses etc., MSP will be guaranteed for the same.”On the possibility of an alliance with Akalis, and on questions if there is a ‘continuous’ dialogue with SAD on the issue, he said, “There’s no such thing as a ‘continuous’ dialogue. We have already said that we will contest all 117 seats in the state on our own.”Dhillon’s visit to leaders comes within days of his declaration as the BJP state chief. Leaders said the visit is primarily aimed at boosting leaders and getting well-versed with cadre ahead of setting in motion the party’s 2027 plans for the state. At Phagwara, Dhillon held a meeting with former Union Minister Som Parkash at his residence, in the presence of BJP leaders Tikshan Sood, district BJP chief Ranjit Singh Khojewal, state general secretary Parminder Singh Brar, leader Anita Som Prakash, among others. In Jalandhar, he called on former state Cabinet minister Manoranjan Kalia at his home, in the presence of party leader Rakesh Rathour, district president Sushil Sharma, Ashok Sareen Hikki, Karamjit Kaur, Raman Pabbi, among others.Dhillon is also reportedly scheduled to meet former Union Minister Vijay Sampla this evening.
