Senior BJP leader and Delhi Public Works Department minister Parvesh Verma on Saturday flagged what he called “Sheesh Mahal 2.0” as he questioned a ‘lavish’ Lodhi Road property linked to former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and enquired about the source of its funding. AAP quickly denounced all charges, threatening Verma with a defamation suit for spreading fake information and pictures of 95, Lodhi Estate.AAP leader Sanjay Singh said this house has been allotted to Kejriwal by the Central government.Borrowing from the character of film “Dhurandhar,” Verma earlier today called Kejriwal the ‘Rahman Dakait’ of Delhi and said Kejriwal was misleading the public by projecting an image of an ordinary man while living lavishly.Addressing a press conference, Verma presented what he claimed were layout plans and interior design documents of a residence at 95 Lodhi Estate, allegedly connected to Kejriwal. AAP, however, said these images were fake and warned media houses against using them. The documents Verma shared outlined a ‘contemporary transitional’ design concept and detailed spaces including a foyer, living room, bedrooms, lounge, and meeting room, along with customized furniture and décor elements. Targeting Kejriwal’s political positioning, Verma alleged that his image as an ‘aam aadmi’ was misleading.“He did not want an ordinary house, but a lavish one,” Verma said, reviving the BJP’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’ allegations regarding the Chief Minister’s official Flag Staff Road residence. Linking the issue to governance, Verma alleged that during the Covid-19 crisis, Kejriwal was missing but was busy building an expensive official residence. Verma further claimed internal dissent within AAP, suggesting leaders were leaving due to what he described as a “lavish and ostentatious lifestyle.”Posing four questions to Kejriwal, Verma asked about the total expenditure and funding source of the Lodhi Estate property, whether such spending was driving party exits, the need for repeated Sheesh Mahals, and alleged links between the property and proceeds of the now-scrapped liquor policy case.Responding to the allegations, Delhi minister Atishi Marlena dismissed the claims, posting on her X, she said, “All the pictures released by Parvesh Verma are fake. They are not pictures of Kejriwal ji’s house.”She added that if there are questions about luxury, “Rekha Gupta ji and LG sahib should open their own houses, and Kejriwal ji will open his house. The public will decide for itself.” Sanjay Singh also said the pictures released by Verma were “completely fake” and warned that both the minister and television channels airing the visuals to “prepare to face a defamation case.”Escalating the political attack, Sanjay Singh challenged key public officials, including Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, to open their residences to the public. “Open the LG’s house, open the Chief Minister’s house, open Parvesh Verma’s house, and open Arvind Kejriwal’s house. Let the public visit and decide whose residence is truly luxurious. Truth will come out,” Singh said.
