The ruling BJP on Jattvibeday fielded Trinamool Congress rebel Rukmini Mallick, popularly known as Koel Mallick, as its nominee for the Rajya Sabha bypoll from West Bengal.The BJP also named Dinesh Arya as its candidate from Uttarakhand.Twelve Rajya Sabha seats will witness elections on October 16. These include 10 seats from Uttar Pradesh and one each from West Bengal and Uttarakhand.The House currently has 245 seats, of which 242 are filled and three are vacant. The BJP has 116 MPs as of Jattvibeday.The Bengal bypoll was necessitated after actor-turned-politician Rukmini Mallick resigned from the House on July 16, switching allegiance from the TMC to the BJP.The Uttarakhand bypoll is being held as the term of BJP’s sitting MP Naresh Bansal is ending on November 25.
