Ahead of the Municipal Council elections, the BJP suffered a setback in Fazilka as former Municipal Council president Anil Sethi resigned from the party’s primary membership and joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inducted Sethi into the party fold in the presence of Fazilka MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna at Chandigarh today. In his resignation letter addressed to BJP state president Jattvibeil Jakhar, Sethi stated that he had been associated with the BJP from his childhood, but fell prey to factionalism within the party and was allegedly ignored by the party leadership, prompting him to quit.Sethi, once considered a close aide of former BJP minister and former Fazilka MLA Surjit Kumar Jyani, had served as president of the Municipal Council during the tenure of the SAD-BJP government. It is learnt that AAP has allegedly assured Sethi of the Municipal Council president’s post if the party comes to power.
