A visit to Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo turned into a life-changing moment for 50-year-old Upinderjit Singh Kingra, who won the first prize of Rs 1.5 crore in the Punjab State Dear 200 Monthly Lottery.Upinderjit, a resident of Moga and a service engineer at a private company, had visited the gurdwara along with his mother Surjeet Kaur and wife Shinderpal Kaur to pay obeisance. After offering prayers, he bought a lottery ticket before leaving for home.Speaking to The Tribune, Upinderjit said, “I had earlier paid obeisance at the other four Takhts. After paying obeisance at Takht Damdama Sahib, I bought a lottery ticket on August 1 and left for home. After some time, I received a phone call from the lottery agent informing me that I had won the first prize of Rs 1.5 crore.”Upinderjit returned to Takht Damdama Sahib on Tuesday evening to thank Waheguru for the blessing.He said he plans to use the prize money to secure the future of his son, who has gone to Canada to study and has now applied for a work permit. He also intends to donate a portion of the money to charity and use the rest to meet other needs.Upinderjit added that he had purchased lottery tickets occasionally in the past but had never won a prize before.
