Faridkot: Exactly 10 years after a saroop of Guru Granth Sahib was stolen from a gurdwara at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village in Faridkot district on June 1, 2015, a large number of people and Panthic organisations held a protest march in Faridkot district on Sunday. They said if a chargesheet was not filed against the accused in the Behbal Kalan firing case within a month, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's residence would be gheraoed. On Sunday, the march began from the gurdwara at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village and culminated at the main chowk in Kotkapura town.

Council of Ministers to hold meeting today

Chandigarh: A meeting of the Punjab Council of Ministers has been convened for Monday afternoon. The meeting is being considered important, since it is being held just before the Ludhiana West bypoll, scheduled for June 19. It is learnt that the agenda for the meeting will be disclosed on the spot.

Foreign-made pistol seized

Abohar: The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized an Austria-made Glock pistol along with a magazine near the border outpost NS Wala area in Jalalabad. BSF company commander informed the Jalalabad police that a packet containing the pistol and magazine was found in a field near Peer Baba Natha Singh Wali Dhani on Saturday night. The police said a case had been registered against unidentified persons under the Arms Act.

Man held for opium smuggling

Abohar: The police arrested a 38-year-old man in Rawatsar in Rajasthan for allegedly smuggling opium on Saturday evening. The arrested persons was said to be a BJP leader. The police said the windscreen of the car was covered with a flex sheet having pictures of top BJP leaders, including former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PM Narendra Modi and Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma. A BJP flag was also fixed on the bonnet of the car.

3 persons die in road accident

Muktsar: Three persons were killed in a head-on collision between a PRTC bus and a motorcycle near Panjgrain Kalan village on the Kotkapura-Moga road in Faridkot district around 5.30 am on Sunday. The deceased were later identified as Vansh (19), Love (19) and Happy (20), all residents of Bagha Purana in Moga district. Sources said they was travelling from Bagha Purana to Kotkapura when the bus coming from Jaito allegedly hit them. Two of them were killed on the spot, while the third succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. A police official said they had sent the bodies for post-mortem examination at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot.
