Stanley helped to liberate the Nazis’ Bergen-Belsen concentration camp
He had been part of the 1944 D-Day invasion of northern France and later fought at Arnhem in the Netherlands.
He did not speak about his experiences until his grandson interviewed him for a class project.
Stanley then began visiting schools to talk about the Holocaust and Judaism.
The great-grandfather, of Solihull, was awarded the British Empire Medal in the most recent New Year honours.

A spokesperson for the Holocaust Educational Trust (UK) paid tribute to him.
They said: “Stanley was nothing short of a hero.
“Nothing could have prepared him for what he saw – he later reflected that it, ‘made you wonder if there was any humanity’.”
They said Stanley carried those memories with him for the rest of his life, using them to educate others about the Holocaust.
The trust added: “The country owes him a debt that can never be repaid.”
