BRITS take an average of five selfies before landing on one they’re actually happy with, according to research.
The survey of 2,000 adults found while 18 per cent are generally satisfied with their very first shot, 32 per cent admitted they rarely get it right first time.

This leads to 35 per cent confirming their camera roll is packed with multiple versions of almost exactly the same picture.
When it comes to capturing the perfect memory, for 83 per cent, making sure everyone fits inside the frame is one of the biggest priorities.

The research was commissioned by Samsung to mark the launch of the Galaxy S26 FE with an enhanced 12MP front camera with a wider view and Photo Assist, giving users greater flexibility when capturing and editing photos and videos.
The research found other important ingredients for an ideal image, and potential reasons to retake, include getting everyone looking at the camera (77 per cent).

As well as capturing a natural moment (75 per cent), finding the most flattering angle (65 per cent), and getting the lighting right (63 per cent).
Whereas someone looking away from the camera (28 per cent) or blinking (29 per cent) are two of the biggest issues amateur photographers face when trying to get the perfect group shot.
A further 22 per cent have discovered only after taking the picture that someone has been partially cut out of the frame or completely hidden behind someone else.
This ratio changes depending on who is behind the camera, with Gen Z revealed as the biggest selfie perfectionists, taking an average of six shots before settling on one.
Dropping to five for Millennials, four for Gen X, and three for Boomers.
But the quest for the perfect group selfie can test everyone’s patience, as the average person is prepared to stand around for only three minutes while a friend repeatedly retakes a group shot.
But an impatient 26 per cent admitted they start getting irritated in under a minute, with the average irritation point being just four attempts.
There is usually one person in their friendship group or family who takes charge of the camera, according to 43 per cent.

When not in control themselves, 19 per cent have insisted on seeing a picture before they’ll approve it.
Others (18 per cent) have at some point asked for another attempt because they didn’t like how they looked.
Gen Z are the fussiest generation, as 11 per cent admitted they have vetoed a picture altogether.
While the same number of all polled (11 per cent) have at some point kept everyone standing around while they tried to get a better shot.
And sometimes the maths simply doesn’t work, as 29 per cent have given up on taking a group selfie altogether because they couldn’t fit everyone into the frame.
Annika Bizon from Samsung said: “Our research shows that a top selfie frustration is missing people in the shot.
“Whether it’s a family gathering, holiday memory, or night out with friends, we’ve all taken endless versions of the same photo just to get everyone in frame.”
