Bukayo Saka was unable to make an impact. His failure to score allowed the hosts to break back and net their second of the game.
The margin of the defeat has seen the Gunners drop from top spot in the Prem and fall behind Manchester City on goal difference.

Uncharacteristically shaky with his passing out from the back, and that set the tone for an awful afternoon for the Gunners.

Not helped by his defence giving Gross and Kostoulas too much time outside the box. Did make a great save late on to deny Matt O’Riley a fourth for Brighton.
Jurrien Timber – 6
Started a game for the first time since March. Managed to last 60 minutes and, to be honest, gave a better showing than those who have had far more action lately.
Ezri Konsa – 5
A tough afternoon for the centre-back, who has otherwise been excellent since moving to Arsenal this summer. Struggled with the movement of Brighton’s forward line.
Gabriel – 4
So often the rock at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, but he was broken by Brighton. Guilty of giving Kostoulas too much time to score Brighton’s second.

Riccardo Calafiori – 4
Gave Gross far too much respect and backed off him for Brighton’s opening goal.
Unable to have an impact going forward, too. A rare off-day for the Italian.
Declan Rice – 5
Rare to see him overrun in the middle of the park; however, he just could not get a foothold in this game.
Dovetailed between right-back and midfield after Timber went off.
Bruno Guimaraes – 4
Made a first Premier League start for Arsenal – but had a nightmare afternoon.
Could not get a grip on the midfield and was hooked on the hour mark.
Bukayo Saka – 4
Missed an absolute golden chance just seconds before Brighton scored their second goal.
Had a few bright and mazy runs, yet the end product was lacking.

Martin Odegaard – 5
At the heart of the move that created Arsenal’s best and, arguably, only one chance of the first half. Misplaced just four of his 41 passes.
Christos Tzolis – 4
Like Saka on the other wing, he was just not able to get into the game. Ferdi Kadioglu was all over him like a rash and the Greek star just never got up to speed.
Kai Havertz – 4
Struggled with a lack of service all game and, when he did get put clean through late on, the German fired a tame effort straight at the goalkeeper.

Shored things up for Arsenal in the middle of the park and brought a bit of order when Arteta’s side were on the ropes.Martin Zubimendi (Timber 60’) – 5
Came on and was originally deployed in midfield, but quickly moved to right-back. Did not get up to speed.
Eberechi Eze (Tzolis 73’) – 5
Has not got into his stride yet this season. A quiet cameo when the game was, in fairness, already over.
Viktor Gyokeres (Odegaard 73’) – 6
On for a short spell back at his old stomping ground. Created a great chance for Havertz late on.
