The report of an inquiry committee investigating allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma, against whom removal proceedings were initiated following the alleged discovery of unaccounted cash from his official residence, was tabled in both Houses of Parliament on Wednesday.The Lok Sabha probe panel has found that the “charges are proved” against Justice Varma, saying he failed to furnish a satisfactory explanation regarding the presence and ownership of the cash found in the storeroom of his official residence.The panel also said Justice Varma’s explanation remained “evasive” and “unsatisfactory” and did not exhibit “candour, transparency, institutional responsibility”.The report further said that material evidence was not secured or preserved and that the storeroom had been disturbed. — with PTI
