CASUALTY’S Olly Rix has revealed the show is at a “massive point of evolution” with its explosive 40th anniversary episodes and major changes taking place.
Viewers are in for a treat with a double episode of the medical drama set to air on Saturday.

Casualty is the world’s longest-running medical drama and the upcoming back-to-back episodes will not only be full of happy returns, but plenty of high stakes action.
Speaking at the screening for the anniversary episode Olly revealed: “I think the way we’re telling stories and the way we’re shooting the stories is changing for the better, which is no disrespect to the past.

“It’s just to last for 40 years on TV. You have to evolve. This is a massive point of evolution.
“Things have changed. And the future and the series that we’re about to run into is a continuation of this style and this way of shooting.”

The long-running medical drama first launched in 1986 and has been a staple of the TV schedule ever since.
Since 2012, BBC Cymru Wales has produced episodes of Casualty, having taken over from BBC Bristol.
We revealed last year that BBC Studios had won the contract to produce Casualty, after a competitive tender process.
This created an opportunity to increase Welsh portrayal and the show will now be set in Cardiff as well as continuing to be filmed there.
This transition ensures Casualty plays an important role in the production ecology of Wales as part of the BBC’s commitment to backing homegrown storytelling.
The anniversary show will see the emergency department team pushed to their limits in a tense and a major rescue operation.
As the fallout continues it will bring together some of the show’s most beloved characters.
A first look at images from the set show nurse Charlie returning to the well-known hospital, but looking very different.
Actor Derek Thompson played the nurse for 38 years and bowed out of the series in 2024.
Charlie Fairhead became a legend on the BBC soap but in the anniversary episode his character is not in his nurse’s scrubs.
Charlie is in civilian clothes alongside another beloved character making a return for the 40th anniversary.
The first look pics show Charlie with his hand on Dr Ethan Hardy’s (George Rainsford) shoulder.
While both men are not wearing medical scrubs, Ethan does have a stethoscope around his neck an apparent injury to his forehead.
Meanwhile, those at the heart of the hospital will be forced to make impossible life-or-death decisions as Dylan (William Beck) battles personal tragedy while leading his team through their darkest hour.
