The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested two more accused in the NEET-UG paper leak case, taking the total number of arrests to 13.One of the arrested accused, Dr Manoj Shirure, is a Latur-based doctor. Investigators alleged that he played a key role in facilitating three students, including the son of Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar, who runs the Renukai Chemistry Classes (RCC) in Maharashtra’s Latur, in obtaining leaked chemistry questions from NEET paper setter PV Kulkarni. The agency had already arrested Montegaonkar in the case. The second arrested accused is Tejas Harshadkumar Shah, a physics teacher at Dr Abhang Prabhu Medical Academy (APMA), a Pune-based coaching centre. According to the agency, Shah obtained leaked physics questions of the NEET-UG 2026 from arrested accused Manisha Havaldar. The CBI has so far conducted searches at 49 locations across the country and seized several incriminating documents, laptops and mobile phones. Detailed analysis of the seized material is underway, agency sources said. The agency had registered the case on May 12 based on a written complaint from the Department of Higher Education under the Union Education Ministry regarding the alleged paper leak.Immediately after registration of the case, special teams were formed and searches were conducted at multiple locations across the country, following which several suspects were detained and questioned. So far, 13 accused have been arrested from Delhi, Jaipur, Gurugram, Nashik, Pune, Latur and Ahilyanagar.Investigators said the probe by various special teams working simultaneously had helped identify the alleged source of the leaked chemistry, biology and physics questions circulated before the examination.Motegaonkar, who was nabbed by the CBI in Pune on May 18, remains among the most prominent persons arrested in the case so far. The coaching institute run by him is among the biggest centres in Maharashtra for NEET, JEE and CET preparations.
