A minor fire broke out at the Blood Bank of Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, in the early hours of Tuesday. The situation was swiftly brought under control, preventing any major damage or disruption to services.The incident was detected by on-duty staff, who immediately alerted security personnel. The security team responded without delay and extinguished the fire before it could spread further.Senior hospital authorities, including the Director Health Services (DHS), Medical Superintendent (MS), Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS), and the Incharge, Blood Bank, rushed to the site and reviewed the situation. They directed safety measures to safeguard the premises and ensure continuity of essential blood bank operations.According to a preliminary assessment, the fire was likely caused by a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit installed in the blood bank area. The affected zone was promptly secured and precautionary measures were taken.No loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident. There was also no significant damage to blood stocks, equipment, records, or infrastructure.A detailed technical inspection is currently under way to determine the exact cause of the fire and recommend further preventive measures.
