Four undertrial prisoners were injured in a clash between two groups inside Kapurthala Central Jail, reportedly following a dispute over standing in a queue. The jail authorities intervened after the altercation and arranged medical treatment for the injured at the Kapurthala Civil Hospital.Two injured undertrials were identified as Boby and his brother Lucky, both residents of Buta Mandi in Jalandhar. They reportedly sustained minor injuries and were now undergoing treatment. Two others of the rival group also sustained minor injuries in the clash.Bobby told the authorities that a criminal case was registered against him in 2025 and he was declared a proclaimed offender in that case. He was later arrested by the police and sent to jail.Lucky said he was arrested by the police last month in connection with a fight-related case. As he was unable to secure bail, he was sent to jail. The two brothers later became involved in a dispute with other undertrials inside the prison, resulting in the clash.The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital, Kapurthala. The hospital authorities prepared the necessary medical reports and forwarded those to the police station concerned.The police have also initiated an inquiry into the incident. Kapurthala Central Jail Assistant Superintendent Satpal Singh reportedly said he was outside the jail when the incident occurred and that the matter had come to his attention. He said an investigation was being conducted by senior officials and that appropriate action would follow based on the findings.The incident highlights the need for continued monitoring of disputes among inmates and timely intervention within correctional facilities.
