A cold storage facility collapsed at Bhagta Bhai Ka village in Bathinda district, located about 45 km from Bathinda city, on Wednesday afternoon, triggering an ammonia gas leak and leaving at least three workers feared trapped under the debris. Besides, some vehicles were also trapped under the debris.According to sources, two workers were rescued soon after the incident, while efforts were under way to trace and rescue a third person, believed to be a foreman, who remained buried till the filing of this report.The incident occurred around 3.30 pm at the cold storage unit located on Bagha Purana Road. The facility, stated to be about two decades old, was primarily used for storing potatoes. The exact cause of the collapse was not immediately known.Some eyewitnesses said the collapse was followed by an ammonia gas leak, making rescue operations difficult. A large quantity of building material lay scattered at the site, further hampering efforts.Members of the volunteer groups – Satkar Committee from Kotha Guru and Bhagta Bhai Ka villages – joined the rescue efforts along with local residents.A police team from Bhagta police station and officials of the Nagar Panchayat, Bhagta Bhai Ka, reached the spot soon after receiving information and supervised the ongoing operation.Authorities said a detailed probe would be conducted once the rescue operation concludes.The owner Gaurav Singla said he was unable to give a statement at the moment.
